Twenty-Five Years of Mathos – Journey to the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics

Twenty-five years ago, in 1999, the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics – mathos – was established and began its work as the Department of Mathematics. Over the years, mathos has grown into a recognizable academic center that shapes generations of experts in the fields of mathematics, computer science, and data science.

Beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year

The introductory lecture by the dean for first-year undergraduate students will take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Lecture Hall 1, starting at 9:00 AM. After the introductory lecture, classes will be held according to the schedule. Classes for other undergraduate and graduate students begin on Monday, October 7, 2024, according to the schedule.

Mathos hosted the 8th Croatian Mathematical Congress

From July 2nd to 5th, 2024, the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics hosted the 8th Croatian Mathematical Congress, the largest scientific gathering of mathematicians in Croatia, organized every four years. The congress brought together around two hundred experts from all over the world, promoting the exchange of knowledge and the latest achievements in mathematics.

Jelena Jankov Pavlović is a member of EMYA

Jelena Jankov Pavlović, PhD, from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, has been selected as a member of the prestigious mathematical organization European Mathematical Society Young Academy (EMYA), founded by the decision of the Council of the European Mathematical Society in 2022. Her candidacy for EMYA membership was proposed by the Croatian Mathematical Society, which has been a member of the European Mathematical Society since 1993. The main function of EMYA is to strengthen the role of the young generation of mathematicians in Europe. The aim is to support them in their career development and better integrate them into the development of the European Mathematical Society and decision-making processes.

Mathematical Colloquium

The Mathematical Colloquium in the regular schedule on Thursdays at 2:00 PM is organized by the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in collaboration with the Association of Mathematicians Osijek.

MC journal

Mathematical Communications is published by the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in cooperation with the Osijek Mathematical Society. The journal was initiated in 1996.

Optimization and Applications Seminar

The Optimization and Applications Seminar was launched in 2008 and is held within the framework of the Joint Postgraduate Doctoral Study Program in Mathematics.

Osijek mathematical gazette

The Osijek Mathematical Gazette is the official publication of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics and the Association of Mathematicians Osijek.

Statistical seminar

The Statistical Seminar of the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was established in November 2017 with the intention of presenting various topics in applied and mathematical statistics.

The Association of Mathematicians Osijek is a scientific-professional association founded in 1993 with the goal of promoting mathematics and related sciences, as well as the application of mathematics in other disciplines.
